چکیده

Microwave coagulation therapy (MCT) has been employed mainly for treatment of small size tumors. In the treatment, thin microwave antenna is inserted into the tumor and microwave energy heats up the tumor up to at least 60 degrees C for generation of enough coagulated volume including the target tumor. During the microwave radiation, reflection coefficient of treatment antenna changes significantly. In this paper, possibility of coagulation monitoring was found observing the reflection coefficient change of the antenna by numerical calculations and measurements.

Finite-Element Analysis and In Vitro Experiments of Placement Configurations Using Triple Antennas in Microwave Hepatic Ablation

This study presents analyses of triple-antenna configurations and designs for microwave (MW) hepatic ablation using 3-D finite-element (FE) analyses verified by in vitro experiments. Treatment of hepatic cancer often requires removal or destruction of large volume lesions. Using multiple antennas offers a potential solution for creating ablation zones with larger dimensions, as well as varied g...

Expression of Recombinant Coagulation Factor IX in Human Amniotic Membrane-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells: A New Strategy to Gene Therapy of Hemophilia B

Background: Hemophilia B is an X-linked hereditary disorder of blood coagulation system which is caused by factor IX (FIX) deficiency. Factor IX is a plasma glycoprotein that participates in the coagulation process leading to the generation of fibrin. Replacement of factor IX with plasma-derived or recombinant factor IX is the conventional treatment for hemophilia B to raise the factor IX le...

مقایسه اثـر دو رژیـم هورمـون درمانی در زنان منـوپوز بر لیپیدها و فعالیت فاکتورهای انعقادی فیبرینـوژن، VII، VIII و IX

Background: During extrinsic coagulation pathway, a complex is developed between factor VII, calcium and tissue factor (a cell membrane lipoprotein that is exposed after cell injury). Factor VII needs calcium and vitamin K for its biologic activation. Coronary artery disease can be induced by increased level and activity of the coagulation factors VII, VIII and IX. In postmenopausal period, est...

Comparison of Ablation Zones among Different Tissues Using 2450-MHz Cooled-Shaft Microwave Antenna: Results in Ex Vivo Porcine Models

BACKGROUND For complete tumor ablation in different tissues, it is necessary to investigate the exact coagulation zone of microwave ablation in different tissues. The aim of this study was to compare the extent of microwave ablation zone in muscle, liver and adipose tissue in ex vivo porcine models and assess the shape of microwave coagulation zone among these tissues. MATERIALS AND METHODS M...
